A Few of My Favorite Things

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad

–”My Favorite Things”
Rodgers and Hammerstein

Well, when I’m just having a bummer of a day, the reasons are usually deeper than a dog biting me or getting stung by a bee—that is, unless the dog had rabies or I had an incredibly gruesome allergic reaction to the bee sting!  But like Maria’s character, I often reflect on the many blessings in my life and focus on those rather than allow, oh, say, a visit to the emergency room spoil my parade!

As a matter of fact, I recently aggravated an old sports related injury and spent most of 2009’s holiday season in and out of quick care clinics, emergency rooms and on my sofa highly medicated.  While other people were out shopping for holiday gift exchanges (something I personally don’t participate in anyway, which I will share in another post) or donning fancy dresses, up-dos and Jimmy Choos for a New Years Eve gala, I was struggling around my own kitchen trying to make simple appetizers and open a few bottles of bubbly for my friends who stopped by to welcome 2010 with me.

So when the urge struck me over the holidays to just curl up in a ball and keep taking those oh-so-powerful pain meds, I instead forced myself to reflect upon my life’s many blessings while also reaching out to friends and family for actual phone conversations.  YES!  Remember those?  No texting, no Tweeting or FaceBooking, we actually spoke with each other on the telephone!

Well, I guess a few of my friends could tell from my voice that I wasn’t quite myself (in pain and a bit out of it from the meds) and expressed that they would like to send me a little something to cheer me up.

“What can I send you?” asked my girlfriend from Utah.

Hmmm…my first thoughts went to Eli’s Cheesecake from Chicago or a bottle of Sancerre delivered via singing telegram to my front door.

“Something not food related,” she insisted before the words came out of my mouth.

And I was stumped.

So I’ve put thought into gifts that I would really appreciate receiving by recognizing the things in my life that I’m thankful for.  I don’t need high end shoes, handbags and the like.  I don’t need jewelery although there are a few unique items I enjoy collecting.

I do enjoy working on my house and improving the health of myself and those around me (with the exception of the occassional cheesecake splurge LOL.)

With that said, I decided to create a “favorite things/wishlist” category here for those of you who have also asked me, “So, what can I send you?”

Gift Cards:  They are easy to work with and most can be sent via email.

  • Home Depot—I am a do-it-yourselfer.  These days  I especially enjoy adding lighting elements around my home
  • Lowe’s—see comment above :)
  • Balanced Body (Pilates)—I am a fitness enthusiast and reserve a warm spot in my heart for Joseph Pilates
  • The Dog Bed Store—No dog should have crummy, deflated beds to sleep in
  • Lululemon Athletica—I am often on the run from the gym to running errands so wearing functional and attractive athletic wear is a MUST

I will wrap my list up for now until I can think of some more ideas on what types of gifts I appreciate.

The best gift of all, however, is the gift of true, accepting, non-judgemental friendships.

Amateur pics…VERY amateur! :P

I just want to capture some down and dirty, CFM images and I can’t seem to do it with a professional female photographer on the other end of the camera!

So, I asked a male friend of mine to take a few amateur pics. The shoot was HOT!! Champagne and the temperature seemed to just keep rising, amongst other things!

Unfortunately, this lighting wasn’t the best and we ended up with some funny pink-ish tones with the end results.

Nonetheless, here are a few. Please share your feeback! We had loads of fun shooting and just playing around, nothing to take too seriously, but good ideas for future professional shoots!

Photo Shoot Tomorrow!!

Photographer Meeshee contacted me a few months ago regarding her upcoming photography tour to Las Vegas. When I looked at the images at her site, along with reading her blog , I was convinced that I had to set up a photo shoot with her.

While I like the photos of myself on my site, I really want to capture the erotic side of myself that comes out behind closed doors. I don’t find it improper for an elite companion to amp (and vamp!) it up to give the visitors to her website a better sense of her “unleashed.” My copy accurately portrays my personality and the current fashion-type images reveal the “edge” of seduction. Well, now I want to go one step further INTO the seduction.

self-portrait taken in anticipation!

Tonight I got so excited knowing that I was only 15 hours away from my shoot with Meeshe, I whipped out some of my favorite, edgy pairs of Manolos to wear around the house in…yes…my pajamas! So in the image to the left, taken just about 2 hours prior to writing this post, I was doing a load of laundry in my jammies and sexy CFM shoes in anticipation for tomorrow’s shoot! Perhaps I should lie and say that I was trying on a corset or mini-skirt when I took the picture. Well, maybe next time! Laundry needs to be done and there is plenty more time for erotic daydreams… :)

My conversation this afternoon with Meeshee was very relaxed. She told me that she provides snacks and refreshments during the shoot–very classy! Most of us ladies provide the same for our patrons when they are visiting us, so it’s really nice to meet with a photographer with the same hostessing skills. She will also have music and a “warm-up” session to begin with. Warm-up? Just hearing about it is getting me HOT! I am so excited.

I will keep you all posted on how my session goes, along with sharing a sneak preview image or two here for all of you who enjoy my blog. (Thank you for continuing to join me here!) Hopefully, there will be a few sultry pictures of me in those Manolos…perhaps with some luxurious textiles thrown in for good measure? *winks*

The “Ideal” Idealist

Ever since I was introduced to it and took the test in high school,  I have been fascinated by the Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator, or the MBTI.  Since I tend to attract an educated audience, I won’t bore you with the details since you probably already know what it is.  But in case you don’t, you can click here to find out more.

The MBTI has reared its head a few times as an undergrad, then again in graduate level courses and yet again in my life as a companion on various discussion boards and ladies’ blogs.  I’m always interested in knowing the “types” of companions and the gentlemen we spend time with.  Please share your type in my comments area.  I have found that many ladies are ENFPs but I’m wondering if there’s a common type amongst patrons?

As for me, I am an INFP, The Idealist.

Taken from www.personalitypage.com:

INFPs are focused on making the world a better place for people. Their primary goal is to find out their meaning in life. What is their purpose? How can they best serve humanity in their lives? They are idealists and perfectionists, who drive themselves hard in their quest for achieving the goals they have identified for themselves

INFPs are highly intuitive about people. They rely heavily on their intuitions to guide them, and use their discoveries to constantly search for value in life. They are on a continuous mission to find the truth and meaning underlying things. Every encounter and every piece of knowledge gained gets sifted through the INFP’s value system, and is evaluated to see if it has any potential to help the INFP define or refine their own path in life. The goal at the end of the path is always the same – the INFP is driven to help people and make the world a better place.

Thoughtful and considerate, INFPs are good listeners and put people at ease. They have a very deep well of caring and are genuinely interested in understanding people. This sincerity is sensed by others, making the INFP a valued friend and confidante. An INFP can be quite warm with people he or she knows well.

In conflict situations, INFPs place little importance on who is right and who is wrong. They focus on the way that the conflict makes them feel, and indeed don’t really care whether or not they’re right. INFPs make very good mediators, and are typically good at solving other people’s conflicts, because they intuitively understand people’s perspectives and feelings, and genuinely want to help them.

INFPs are flexible and laid-back, until one of their values is violated. In the face of their value system being threatened, INFPs can become aggressive defenders, fighting passionately for their cause. When an INFP has adopted a project or job which they’re interested in, it usually becomes a “cause” for them.

When it comes to the mundane details of life maintenance, INFPs are typically completely unaware of such things. They might go for long periods without noticing a stain on the carpet, but carefully and meticulously brush a speck of dust off of their project booklet.

INFPs do not like to deal with hard facts and logic. Their focus on their feelings and the Human Condition makes it difficult for them to deal with impersonal judgment. They don’t understand or believe in the validity of impersonal judgment, which makes them naturally rather ineffective at using it.

INFPs have very high standards and are perfectionists. Consequently, they are usually hard on themselves, and don’t give themselves enough credit. INFPs may have problems working on a project in a group, because their standards are likely to be higher than other members’ of the group. In group situations, they may have a “control” problem. Without resolving this conflict, they will never be happy with themselves, and they may become confused and paralyzed about what to do with their lives.

INFPs are usually talented writers. They may be awkward and uncomfortable with expressing themselves verbally, but have a wonderful ability to define and express what they’re feeling on paper. INFPs also appear frequently in social service professions, such as counseling or teaching. They are at their best in situations where they’re working towards the public good, and in which they don’t need to use hard logic.

INFPs who function in their well-developed sides can accomplish great and wonderful things, which they will rarely give themselves credit for. Some of the great, humanistic catalysts in the world have been INFPs.

I highlighted the attributes that really resonate with me.  I shared this with a dear friend and lover who exclaimed, “You, my dear, are the ideal Idealist!”

So tell me, what’s your type?

(Take a form of the test here or a very short version of the test here if you don’t know yours and are curious.)

Hat Spinning & Where’s the Beef?

Seems this little overachiever has dropped a hat or two over the past few weeks.  I have been on a path to change myself (and the world!) for about a year, and lately I’ve become a bit overextended.  Not only do I wear a few different hats, but I often find myself spinning them…trying to find that perfect balance between all of them.  But over thinking or a slight breeze can knock one down, and I can’t pick it up without having to stop all of the hats from spinning.

Well, I am finally able to stop spinning one of those hats as a class I’ve been taking ended last night.  After a few final weeks organizing archives and placing them into my portfolio in a meaningful and structured manner, I now have a sense of relief and deep satisfaction!  This is not to say that the class was stressing me.  I adored my classmates and my instructor, and as she says, “It’s not the end, this is the beginning.”  Completing the class allows me many opportunities to reach out to the community and make an impact.  I am so thankful!

Believe it or not, one other thing I have been slowly working on is this blog.  I am in the process of moving it over to my website directly, so that it will belong to me and not Word Press.  I will use that as one of the reasons why I haven’t added much here, in case WP finds the content too risque for their site.  I have so many enticing entries in mind, some that I’ve shared with a few of you and even hinted that we collaborate with…very exciting!

I appreciate you sticking around!  I promise you will find much juicer entries very soon!

Appreciatively,
Lynette
